Over the past few years, Kharkiv has been implementing a decentralized heating system that is more resistant to enemy shelling. Ukrainian equipment manufacturers and international partners are involved in the process.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to News.Live.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, missiles and drones have damaged or destroyed more than 200 heating network facilities in Kharkiv. According to preliminary estimates, the damage is worth UAH 2.5 billion.
According to experts and local authorities, the way out of the stalemate in Kharkiv is to decentralize the heating system.
“Since 2021, we have been decentralizing the heating system. Since the city's energy system, built in Soviet times and based on large generation sources, has shown to be inefficient and vulnerable,” said Ivan Kuznetsov, director of the city's life support department at Kharkiv City Council.
It is noted that the Red Cross is assisting in the restoration of heating networks, and agreements have been signed with the IBRD, USAID, and cities in the Czech Republic and Sweden. They provide cogeneration units of various capacities - megawatt and 1.5-megawatt modular boiler houses.
“Cogeneration units are already being installed in Kharkiv. We installed this 70 kW unit this winter. It was provided as part of donor support from USAID. This is a cogeneration unit manufactured by the Czech company TEDOM. It provides autonomous operation of the entire boiler house, and the electricity that is not used by the boiler house goes to the grid. This unit provides electricity to the boiler house, and the boiler house itself provides heat to about 7-8 thousand people. As of today, 11 similar projects have already been implemented,” said Yevhen Kaurkin, Technical Director of Kharkiv Heating Networks.
According to him, such an installation also meets the needs of an entire medical facility. It took only a month to install it. The productive work of the block-modular boiler house is ensured by boilers of the domestic brand Kolvi.
“The boiler house came to us in a block design. We only had to connect three containers to each other, all the internal piping was already installed. The plant uses simple and easy-to-use Kolvi boilers. ”As for our cooperation with the company, we are in constant contact with them both on commissioning and on issues during the heating season. Realizing our difficult situation, they immediately come to us, advise and help," emphasized Kaurkin.
